A clear path to overcoming phobias — with expert support every step of the way.

Our structured treatment program is designed to help you feel more confident and in control of your fears. Combining traditional psychological methods with virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET), we offer a safe and supportive way to face your phobia and build lasting resilience.

Duration: 70 minutes

Your journey starts with a comprehensive assessment. This first session helps us understand your specific phobia and determine whether VRET is the right fit for you.

What to expect:

  • A conversation about how your phobia impacts your daily life and what goals you want to achieve.

  • A psychological assessment to explore how you respond to anxiety.

  • Guidance on whether VRET is appropriate for your needs.

  • If not suitable, we’ll recommend effective alternatives — including other options available through our wider Illumen Psychology practice.

Duration: 6 sessions

Our program blends evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), anxiety management skills, and graded VR exposure.

What’s Included:

  • A personal VR headset to keep compatible with your smartphone

  • Access to psychologist-designed VR content tailored to your phobia.

  • Ongoing support from a clinical psychologist.

  • A clear, structured roadmap to progress.

Optional Additional Sessions
If you need more time, you’re not alone. Some clients benefit from extra sessions — for deeper exposure, real-life application, or exploring additional techniques like imagery rescripting. We’ll tailor these based on your needs.

Session 1: Psychoeducation & Anxiety Management

You’ll learn how fear works — and how to interrupt it. We’ll introduce practical strategies such as breathing techniques, grounding, and mindfulness to manage anxiety effectively during and beyond sessions.

Session 2: Cognitive Therapy & Exposure Planning

We help you reframe unhelpful thoughts and create your personalised fear hierarchy — a ranked list of situations that trigger anxiety, from mild to intense. You’ll also receive your personal headset to enable at-home VR practice via your smartphone.

Sessions 3–4: Guided VR Exposure

In these sessions, you’ll experience virtual exposure to feared situations — safely, gradually, and with full support from your psychologist. You’ll practise applying the strategies learned in earlier sessions in real-time.

Sessions 5–6: Real-Life Exposure & Long-Term Planning

We shift focus to real-world application. Depending on your progress, we may support you through in-person exposure. We’ll also create a plan for ongoing practice and help you consolidate what you’ve learned.
